The company, founded in 1892 and now run by Justine and Marie Charlemagne, produces 80,000 bottles, mainly from 15 hectares in the municipality of Mesnil-sur-Oger. The average age of the vineyards is 42 years old.
In Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, chalk (or "le Craie") composed of calcite granules and skeletons of marine microorganisms dating back 70 million years, outcrops everywhere and favors the production of the finest and most elegant Blanc de Blancs in Champagne: their minerality and pronounced acidity are transformed, thanks to aging on lees, into bottles of appreciable complexity and longevity.
Guy Charlemagne's Brut Réserve is a Grand Cru Champagne made exclusively with Chardonnay grapes from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the renowned Côte des Blancs terroir. An example that stands out for its rare finesse and lightness. Vinified in thermoregulated tanks, it matures for 2-3 years in the maison's underground cellars, entirely built in chalk.
Tasting notes: It presents a straw yellow color characterized by a beautiful lunar pallor, accompanied by a constant flow of small bubbles. The nose is an explosion of citrus well intertwined with notes of acacia and rose flowers. In the mouth, it is pleasantly creamy and fresh, with extraordinary length.
Pairings: Idyllic with raw or gratin oysters, but also pairs well with seafood or a citrus tart.
