An ancient stronghold defending Florence since the year 1000, Castello di Nipozzano is the most famous and historic property of the Frescobaldi family. According to popular tradition, Nipozzano means "without a well," indicating that the area was poor in water, an ideal circumstance for vine cultivation. The castle and wine estate are located east of Florence, in the heart of the prestigious Chianti Rufina territory, right on the mountain slope overlooking the Arno river valley. Thanks to the perfect balance of altitude, soil, and a cool, ventilated microclimate, the different varieties find ideal conditions for perfect growth and allow for the production of wines with a harmonious character and strong longevity. Montesodi is a cru born in 1974 and produced only in the best vintages, with only Sangiovese grapes grown in the eponymous vineyard. At an altitude of 400 meters, it has always been considered the best area of the estate for cultivating Tuscany's most important and iconic variety. Matured for about 18 months in 30-hectolitre French oak barrels, it is an intense, broad, and aristocratic wine with a very long persistence.

Tasting notes:

Intense ruby red with garnet reflections. The nose is intense, fresh, fragrant, mineral, with hints of aromatic herbs, cherries in spirit, violet, and ginger. On the palate, it is persistent, mineral, with slightly rough tannins. The finish offers notes of bitter almond and hazelnut, with great elegance.

Pairings:

Excellent throughout the meal, it pairs well with short-cooked red meats and is magnificent with classic Florentine steak.
