CastelGiocondo is a unique place in Montalcino, where the great variety of exposures and soils – galestro, clays and Pliocene sands – give this Brunello an infinite range of nuances. A multifaceted array of notes that evolve over time and make me constantly want to discover, savor, and remember.

VINIFICATION AND AGEING:

Careful vineyard management combined with the distinctive characteristics of this unmistakable terroir led to a beautiful harvest. The Sangiovese grapes were hand-picked and, once in the cellar, subjected to a meticulous selection. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with frequent pump-overs, especially during the initial stages. The wine then underwent a long period of aging in wood, where it had the opportunity to mature, refine, and balance. Only after a period of 5 years in the cellar and further bottle aging for a few months, CastelGiocondo was ready to be introduced.

TASTING NOTES:

The sense of sight is the first to be satisfied. CastelGiocondo 2014 immediately presents itself with an intense and brilliant ruby red color. On the nose, fruity notes predominate, ranging from raspberry to redcurrant, with faint hints of blueberry; a piquant and surprising elegant floral note emerges after a few moments: unmistakable hints of violet. As it opens up, spicy and tertiary notes, due to the long aging, are released. Cinnamon, pepper, and leather chase each other, and on the finish, reminding us of its extreme elegance, a balsamic touch.
In the mouth, it completely envelops and impresses with its harmony, its dense tannic structure, and its mineral sensation. The finish is long and persistent.

Pairs well with rigatoni with castrato ragù, wild boar in salmì, and aged pecorino di fossa.
