Donnafugata's Mille e una Notte is a persuasive and charming expression from one of Italy's most important wineries. Defined by the winery itself as its "flagship red," it has distinguished itself in the Sicilian wine scene due to its consistent quality level, which has not only contributed to numerous awards but also to the valorization of a land extremely suited for wine production.
The Mille e una Notte wine was born from the dream of Giacomo and Gabriella, founders of Donnafugata, to create a great Sicilian red, with the collaboration of Giacomo Tachis, a renowned oenologist who had already conceived Italian monuments such as Sassicaia, Solaia, and Tignanello. The idea was to enhance the quintessential indigenous Sicilian grape variety, Nero d'Avola, and combine it with international varieties such as Petit Verdot and Syrah, capable of enriching the liquid with spicy and elegant nuances. Production follows traditional processes, ranging from low yields per hectare to manual harvesting, which then involves careful selection of the best bunches. After fermentation, it ages in new French oak barriques for 13-14 months.
The Mille e una Notte red appears in the glass with an impenetrable ruby color. From the very first sniff, it reveals all its richness, ranging from extremely territorial hints, such as plum and carob, to balsamic and spicy puffs. On the palate, it impresses with its caressing tactility, a combination of softness and very fine tannins.
Very long persistence, which pairs with structured foods such as rack of lamb, pasta dishes with meat sauces, and even fish stews. An icon of class and elegance, Mille e una Notte is the perfect companion for special evenings.
