Tenuta San Guido is one of the most famous Italian wineries in the world. It is located in Bolgheri, right at the end of the cypress avenue immortalized by the verses of Giosuè Carducci.

The most famous wine from Tenuta San Guido is certainly Sassicaia. This renowned label was born from the intuition and passion of Marchese Incisa della Rochetta, who wanted to produce a great Tuscan red wine using the noble Bordeaux grape varieties.

Following the great success of Sassicaia, the red wine Le Difese was created in 2002. The wine is produced from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Sangiovese (30%) and represents a perfect synthesis between the international grapes cultivated on the estate and the leading red grape variety of the great Tuscan tradition and true symbol of the territory.

After manual harvesting, the grapes undergo soft pressing and fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, with a maceration on the skins of 12-14 days for Cabernet Sauvignon and 15-18 days for Sangiovese. The wine matures for about 12 months in French oak barriques and completes its ageing with several months in the bottle before being released for sale.

In the glass, it presents a beautiful, intense, and brilliant ruby red color. The nose opens with aromas of small dark berries, floral notes, delicately spicy hints, memories of Mediterranean maquis herbs, and balsamic nuances. The palate is harmonious, with a soft entry and satisfying fruit. The tannins are elegant and well integrated into the body of the wine, which maintains a pleasant freshness and drinkability.

It pairs very well with traditional Tuscan first courses with meat and game ragu, or with roasted and grilled meats.
